Help Fill Plates for Families Impacted by the SNAP Benefit Suspension
When neighbors are in need, our Catholic Charities community steps up — and right now, many families need us more than ever.
Because of the ongoing federal government shutdown and the state budget impasse, Pennsylvania has been told it won’t receive funding for November’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) — what many know as “food stamps.” This means that more than 184,000 people across our Diocese won’t get their food benefits this month.
That’s thousands of parents, seniors, and children who may not know where their next meal will come from.
At Catholic Charities, we’re doing everything we can to make sure no one goes hungry. Our food pantries, soup kitchens, and Community Café Food Truck are all ramping up to meet the growing need. Anyone looking for food support can call us at 610-435-1541 to learn about emergency pantry services, choice pantry hours, or our food truck schedule.
And here’s how you can help.
If you’re able to give, please consider donating some of our most-needed items:
- Canned chicken or tuna (pop tops preferred) or individual packets
- Canned fruit or vegetables (pop tops preferred)
- Peanut butter and jelly
- Baby formula (any brand)
- Grocery store gift cards (Boyers, Giant, Redner’s, Weis)
You can drop off donations at any of our Catholic Charities offices in Allentown, Reading, or New Philadelphia. Every can, jar, and gift card helps feed someone who might otherwise go without.
Join our “Phil the Bag” campaign to help fill plates and hearts across our communities.

Together, we can make sure our neighbors don’t go hungry — and remind every person who comes to our door that they are seen, loved, and not alone.
