Berks Community Café Food Truck Shares Meals in Reading
Catholic Charities has expanded its Community Café outreach with the addition of a second food truck, affectionately named AL. The new mobile kitchen is dedicated to serving communities throughout Berks County, bringing nutritious meals directly to neighbors experiencing food insecurity.
AL officially began its mission on July 2, making its first stop at St. Paul’s Church in Reading before continuing to Riverfront Park. Throughout its inaugural day of service, the food truck provided 120 free meals, offering not only nourishment but also a welcoming presence for individuals and families in need. Many people were surprised to learn that the meals were free. The response from the community was overwhelmingly positive.
The Community Café team welcomed guests with compassion and hospitality. Assisting gathering people and event logistics were Deacon Carlos Pinto and his wife, María Rivera, whose dedication helped ensure the event ran smoothly. Together, their efforts reflected Catholic Charities’ commitment to serving every person with dignity while strengthening relationships throughout the community.
The launch of the food truck marks another important step in Catholic Charities’ ongoing effort to expand access to healthy meals and compassionate support.
