Bishop Alfred A. Schlert Blesses New Catholic Charities Berks Food Truck
The Catholic Charities Community Café Food Truck began serving Schuylkill County two years ago with a simple but powerful vision: bringing meals directly to individuals and families facing hardship in their own communities. The program was created to remove barriers that often prevent people from accessing nutritious food and supportive services. By taking meals directly into neighborhoods, the Food Truck has become a welcoming and reliable resource for many residents.
Since its launch, the program has experienced remarkable growth across the county. Today, the Food Truck serves 12 communities and provides more than 1,000 meals every week to neighbors in need. Beyond food, the initiative creates opportunities for connection, conversation, and support for those facing difficult circumstances.
Building on this success, Catholic Charities is expanding the program with the addition of a second Food Truck named “AL”. The new vehicle will extend services into Reading, bringing meals and hope to even more community members. This expansion reflects the organization’s continued commitment to meeting people where they are and responding to growing needs throughout the region.
On June 3, Most Rev. Alfred A. Schlert blessed the new Berks Food Truck during a special ceremony held at Holy Guardian Angels Parish. The event took place in the presence of Father Hoffa, Pastor of Holy Guardian Angels, and members of the local community who gathered to celebrate the occasion. Students from Holy Guardian Angels Regional School also participated in the celebration and were served cookies and fruit, symbolizing the official launch of the new Food Truck and its mission of service to the community.
