Compassion in Motion – December 2025
Catholic Schools Answer the Call
When compassion is put into action, hope travels far. We are deeply grateful to the many Catholic schools across our Diocese that stepped forward to support our neighbors facing food insecurity—and to bring joy to children in need.
Through generous food drives, students and school communities filled “Phil, the Bag” with nourishment for families struggling to make ends meet. At the same time, they became joyful “Santa’s elves,” helping ensure children experienced the warmth and wonder of the season through thoughtful gifts and care.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to:
- St. Joseph the Worker School, Orefield
- Berks Catholic High School, Reading
- Bethlehem Catholic High School, Bethlehem
- Marian Catholic High School, Tamaqua
These acts of kindness do more than provide food and gifts—they send a powerful message to families: you are seen, you are valued, and you are not alone. Thank you for living your faith through service and for moving compassion from the classroom into the community.
Together, we continue to place compassion in motion—one bag, one gift, and one caring act at a time.
Honoring Veterans with Care and Connection
Compassion was truly in motion at Veterans Awareness Day held at Alvernia College in Pottsville, where the Community Café Schuylkill Food Truck was honored to serve a warm, nourishing meal to local Veterans.
Alongside the meal service, our Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) case managers were on hand to meet with Veterans, listen to their stories, and share information about resources and supports available to them. Our case managers were also available at a veteran’s expo sponsored by PA Senator Ryan Mackenzie in Jim Thorpe.
This presence reflects our commitment to meeting people where they are, offering both nourishment and pathways to stability. We are grateful for the opportunity to stand alongside those who have served and to ensure they know they are seen, valued, and supported.
Through moments like these, Catholic Charities continues to place compassion in motion—honoring dignity, building trust, and walking with our Veterans toward hope and wholeness.
