Together in Gratitude: St. Luke’s and Catholic Charities Honor First Responders
On August 7, Catholic Charities and St. Luke’s Health Network Sacred Heart Campus brought together first responders from across the area for a special day of appreciation at the Star Community Health Network parking lot. The Heart 2 Heart Thank You, recognized the dedication, courage, and compassion of the men and women who serve their communities every day, often placing themselves in harm’s way to protect others. The event provided an opportunity for community partners to express their gratitude for their unwavering commitment to public safety.
During the past six months alone, Lehigh County’s first responders have answered the call through storms, vehicle crashes, medical emergencies, extreme heat and structure fires. Their commitment reminds us that, regardless of the emergency, they are always ready to serve and protect our neighbors.
Catholic Charities mascot, Phil, the Bag, and the Community Café Food Truck, served meals to everyone in attendance. Sharing a meal was a simple yet meaningful way to thank those who answer the call during emergencies and disasters. Most Rev. Alfred A. Schlert, Bishop of the Diocese of Allentown, Bill Moyer, President of St. Luke’s University Health Network’s West Region and the Sacred Heart Campus, and Pam Russo, Interim Executive Director of Catholic Charities, joined together to recognize the invaluable contributions of the region’s first responders.
Recognizing first responders is a reminder of the extraordinary “heart work” they perform every day. Catholic Charities is grateful for the opportunity to stand alongside community partners in honoring these everyday heroes whose selfless service strengthens and protects our neighborhoods.
