Catholic Charities Prepares for Impactful Changes to SNAP Benefits

Important changes are coming soon to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly known as the food stamp program.

Under new rules, individuals and families who depend on this vital assistance may face serious difficulties in putting nutritious food on the table. Neighbors who are experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, or other difficult circumstances will find new SNAP requirements especially challenging. In fact, many will lose access to SNAP altogether.

What does this mean for Catholic Charities?

It is very likely that Catholic Charities will see a significant increase in the need for food programs across Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Northampton, and Schuylkill Counties. Our Food Pantries, Food Trucks, and Community Café Kitchen are preparing to welcome and serve greater numbers of children, adults, and families than ever. We continue to work with food assistance programs and partners across all five counties as the growing need will require a community-wide commitment and response.

How Can You Help?

With support from individuals, families, and local organizations, Catholic Charities can walk alongside our neighbors with compassion, dignity, and hope. In order to make this possible, you can:

  • Organize a food drive at your workplace, school, parish, or in your community to collect much-needed nonperishable food items our food pantries, food trucks, and Community Café Kitchen
  • Volunteering your time to make a direct difference in the lives of those we serve.
  • Make a financial gift to provide critical resources and services to individuals and families facing hardship.

Every gift of time, talent, treasure, and prayer makes a difference. Together, we can continue to ensure that no one facing hardship feels forgotten or alone.
