Compassion in Motion: Highlights from April 2026
Meeting Veterans Where They Are
When the Catholic Charities Diocese of Allentown SSVF (Supportive Services for Veteran Families) team showed up at the local Lehigh Valley Senior and Veterans Expo and the Lansford Stand Down, they came with more than brochures – they came with a mission.
Throughout the day, team members connected one-on-one with veterans and their families, listening to their stories and helping them navigate resources. For many, it was the first step toward finding support they didn’t know was available.
Our SSVF and Community Café food truck teams connected veterans to community support services and reminded each person they encountered that they are not alone. It’s a powerful reminder that sometimes the greatest act of service is simply showing up.
Assumption BVM Students Live the Corporal Works of Mercy
Catholic Charities was delighted to visit Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic School, Pottsville accompanied by a very special guest, “Phil, the Bag”!
With smiles, laughter, and a spirit of generosity, students welcomed the opportunity to learn more about how Catholic Charities serves neighbors in need through the Corporal Works of Mercy. Inspired by what they learned, the students took action making a heartfelt and generous donation to support this mission.
Their kindness is a beautiful reminder that compassion has no age limit. Giving from what they have, these students are already making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
Thank you to the Assumption BVM school community for your warm welcome, your generosity, and for putting faith into action.
Recognized for Community Care
The Catholic Charities Diocese of Allentown was recently honored at the Allentown Crime Watch Awards Banquet for its commitment to supporting neighbors in need. The award was presented by Allentown Police Chief Charles Roca and Bonnie Wachter, President of the Crime Watch and Neighborhood Groups.
This recognition reflects more than a single moment, it represents the everyday work of staff, volunteers, and supporters who believe in building stronger, more compassionate communities.
While awards are meaningful, the true impact is found in the lives changed each day: families finding stability, individuals receiving support, and hope being restored.
St. Michael the Archangel Students Discover the Mission of Catholic Charities
Recently, we had the joy of welcoming students from St. Michael the Archangel School, Bethlehem, to learn more about the mission and impact of Catholic Charities.
Their visit was filled with curiosity, thoughtful questions, and meaningful conversations about what it means to serve others. Students explored how Catholic Charities supports neighbors in need—through food assistance, case management, counseling, and outreach programs—and how even small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
Moments like these are powerful reminders that the spirit of service begins early. By opening their hearts to the needs of others, the students are already living out the values of compassion and community. The students also completed a drive for baby items and presented a donation.
We are grateful for the opportunity to share our mission and inspire the next generation to be voices of hope in the world.
